Research And Planning - Poster Analysis Two

Genre-

The genre of this film is romantic drama. This is quite evident straight away, as you can see the couple who are evidently in love, showing the genre is romance- however, the rain coming down on them could be showing that there is something 'raining' on their love, which presents the dramatic side to the film, thus meaning the genre of the film is shown very well through the poster, it is easy to follow for all who view it.

Representation-

The man is holding up the woman  on the picture, which represents the stereotype of a 'masculine' man, presenting that he is strong and is in control of the relationship. The couple are wearing 'light' colours which represents the fragility of their relationship, showing that they are innocent and vunerable  and a stereotypical young couple. The males hair seems to be 'messy' where as the woman still appears to be presentable- this could be a representation of their classes and represents the difference of the two.

Narrative-

The man is holding up the woman, which shows the narrative of him being her 'rock' and being the one holding everything together throughout. The film follows the couple as the male reads their past to her from a notebook, as she has dementia. The woman has a ring on her ring finger, which shows the narrative of them marrying, and presents the idea of eternal love for the couple. This is important as it is presenting the narrative of not giving up, as the male does not- he keeps working on their relationship even though she cannot remember him.

Audience-

The poster does not give much away about the target audience, however, as it shows a 'serious' looking couple, this implies that the audience should be able to understand this. The couple shown are quite young, thus meaning the audience this would most appeal to is late teens/young adults. The poster is very simplistic, and so this leaves a lot to the viewer to figure out- it is engaging as this makes you want to watch the trailer/research the film; however when you do so, you see that the film has mature, and some hard-hitting content, therefore letting the audience (in some ways) determine its self, as many will be engaged of many ages/backgrounds. As light colours are used and it shows a 'soppy' stereotypical love it would seem the main audience would be women, however, as the lead female is 'attractive' this could be seen as appealing to males, meaning some may watch this film with that purpose.

Media Language-

High-key lighting is used on the poster to show the viewer that the film is 'postive' and 'nice', by having the couple shown in high-key lighting it represents their love to be something that is bright and colourful. The couple are tightly framed in a two shot, which shows the audience that they are very close- this helps to show the narrative as it represents how inseperable the two are.  The mise-en-scene is very simple- they are in wet clothing which shows a stereotype of 'kissing in the rain' and again, showing a 'perfect' couple, which helps to show what the genre is. By stressing on how 'romantic' the film is through all of this, the viewer will note that the audience is to be mature in order to understand the film, and this is more engaging as it shows that there may be some kind of 'plot-twist' that is unusual for a normal romance film (which it does.)

Research And Planning - Poster Analysis One

Genre-

The genre of this film is romantic drama. The romance side to this can be seen straight away, as the couple are framed tightly together in a medium, long two shot. By being so close in the picture it is evident that they are attracted to each other, which shows the romance genre. However, from the film poster you cannot tell something negative will happen, which makes the dramatic side to the film lack here.

Representation-

The poster shows a young couple 'holding' each other, which shows a stereotypical loving relationship. The man is holding the woman up, which makes the viewer see him as a 'muscular' man, and this possibly represents how he is her 'rock' and she needs him to be there as a support system, which is a very stereotypical way to show the couple.

Narrative-

The narrative of the film is one that is very complex, and so, the poster doesn't present the negative aspects of the relationship. By showing the strong male and weak female in a 'perfect' set up, this will make the viewer question what is really going on and therefore encourage them to view the trailer or watch the actual film. The name of the film "The Vow" does a lot for the narrative, as it makes you question what this could actually mean. When people think of vows they think of eternal love and weddings, and by having this so clearly on the film poster it makes you assume that these vows could be being challenged, which presents the narrative well as the film follows the couple trying to rebuild their relationship.

Audience-

By showing the couple and having "inspired by true events" this shows that the film is evidently for more mature audiences, as a 'real' relationship is something very complicated and young people would be unable to follow the true events in question. The high-key lighting and bright colours make the target audience seem more likely to be women, and because of the mature content, those of an older age. However, as the film follows a young couple, this may not seem as appealing to those who have already settled down, and so the audience would not be very old either. This shows that the audience of this film is likely to be women from an age of around 15-mid 20's.

Media Language-

The tight framing shows us who the film is focused around and this gives us a sense of narrative straight away. As well as this, the background is blurred slightly, which makes the couple your main focus point automatically. The man is wearing long sleeves and dark(ish) colours, which contrasts with the woman wearing no sleeves and light, pure white. This presents that he is in a negative state, which could in fact present the narrative. High-key lighting is used which shows the film has a positive edge to it, as well as this, bright colours are used. Both of these show that the film has a good outcome and ending, which shows who the audience should be through this alone.
